Sports News

For the FIFTH year running, St. Finian's has been awarded the prestigous Gold Sportsmark Award. This award rewards schools for their continued commitment and development of school sport, competition and physical education. The criterion for this award was set by Sport England and the Youth Sports Trust. It assesses PE, school sports participation, competition and sporting opportunities given to school's pupils.

The Gold award recognises those schools who show exceptional achievement, excellent participation, highly innovative schemes and outstanding progress in meeting their sporting aims. We are very proud and as a school we could not have achieved this without the children, parents, coaches and volunteers who attended and competed in all types of festivals, tournaments and competitions.

Berkshire Cricket

We have been blessed to have the fanastic Tom Pill from Berkshire Cricket imparting his great cricket skills and coaching with us. Year 3 and 4 have thoroughly loved his sessions and we have seen a visible improvement in their bowling and catching skills. Thank you Tom!

Tournaments, Festivals, Competitions and Friendlies

As soon as we are able to, we will be returning to tournaments, festivals, friendlies and competition, but until that time we are proud to be part of the West Berkshire Virtual Games. We will be competing with other schools but virtually. For KS2 (year 3 and above) these games are filmed then sent to West Berkshire Active to adjudicate, so it is imperative that consent forms must be completed and filming permission slips sent in asap - please feel free to email these directly to the office or Mrs. Stevens on sstevens@stfinians.w-berks.sch.uk.

KS2 'Virtual' Futsal (Invasion Game) Competition

WOW! Well done to our Year 5 team who all competed in the Virtual Futsal Challenge and came second. Year 5 displayed their excellent shooting, passing and precision skills by competing in three timed futsal drills. Brilliant job Year 5!

KS1 'Virtual' Jungle Fever Tournament

Congratulations to Year 1 and 2 who took part in our first 'virtual' school games and did us proud! The competition comprised of three components - agility, balance and co-ordination and both year groups loved it. They did so well - and they competed virtually against 56 schools. Both teams were great sporting ambassadors; trying their hardest, communicating and postively supportively supporting each other. Remarkably, they worked so hard that both teams won their age group for West Berkshire and North Hampshire. Amazing! Well done Year 1 and Year 2.
