Welcome to Year 3 - Kingfishers Class
Teacher: Miss Burgess
Teaching Assistants: Miss Morris, Mrs Hedges
Year 3 marks the start of a whole new adventure as children begin their journey in KS2! It comes with a step up in responsibility and expectation, but not at the expense of the independently led style of learning children have been used to in earlier years. There is a healthy balance between physical activity, outdoor and class based learning. As children meet new challenges across the curriculum, we emphasise the importance of a growth mindset. Children are taught to wear a positive hat, and to have a go at tasks, not worrying too much if, especially at first, they find things difficult. Children are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and be ready at a practical level; remembering books bags and looking after their own equipment.
Class texts are carefully chosen to motivate and inspire the children tying in with Year 3 curriculum themes e.g. Egyptians, Stone Age and Bronze Age. Drawing on these, there are plenty of opportunities for creative expression through art, DT, music, drama and role play.
Developing confidence through focused oracy tasks plays a big part in Year 3, facilitated through structured conversations and allowing freedom of thought and opinion. Learning to listen respectively to others is also a valuable part of this. Finally, we place a particular focus on self-awareness and the social and emotional elements of relationships as children learn more about how to get along together and to appreciate similarities and differences.
