Happy New Year and Welcome Back!

It's official - once again our PE and sports are gold!

For the FIFTH year running, St. Finian's has been awarded the prestigous Gold Sportsmark Award. This award rewards schools for their continued commitment and development of school sport, competition and physical education. The criterion for this award was set by Sport England and the Youth Sports Trust. It assesses PE, school sports participation, competition and sporting opportunities given to school's pupils.

The Gold award recognises those schools who show exceptional achievement, excellent participation, highly innovative schemes and outstanding progress in meeting their sporting aims. We are very proud and as a school we could not have achieved this without the children, parents, coaches and volunteers who attended and competed in all types of festivals, tournaments and competitions.

Sports Clubs

Mrs. Stevens' morning and lunchtime clubs will start again on Monday 6th January. All these clubs are free and children wishing to attend the lunchtime clubs sign up on the day on a week by week basis. Pupils wishing to attend do not need a packed lunch but it is advisable. Children must be dressed in their appropriate PE kit, with no jewellery and essential equipment for that sport e.g. shin pads and gum shield if needed.

Permission Slips

Permission Slip(1)

Please, please, please remember to complete and give your permission slips as soon as possible. If you are having problems organising transport any of the tournaments please do talk to Mrs Stevens because we are blessed with volunteer parents who can help with transport. These parents have been thoroughly vetted and checked. However, sadly it will be first come first served basis, however if your child is for any reason is unable to attend a tournament, please do advise Mrs Stevens so another child can be given the opportunity.

Archery Tournament @ Theale Green School

Our fearless archers competed against 21 schools at the Annual Archery Tournament held at Theale Green Sceondary School and were justone point short of the medals! The tournament consisted of eight stations using eight different archery skills sich as distance, aim, technique and precision and our team did brilliantly. They were great ambassadors for the school and as Ben said "It was great fun." Well done archers.

Year 4 - 5 a side Indoor Football @ Trinity School

Our year 4 team were shattered after an exhausting indoor football tournament where they played Falklands, Meadow Vale, Birch Copse, Thatcham Park, Bradfield and Sulhampstead Primary Schools. They played brilliantly, had most of the possession but the ball just would not go in in some games. The standard of goalkeeping was amazing - as was ours and we came third in the tournament. Well done to the boys - great play!

A plea from Mrs. Stevens…

Fingers crossed that the children's New Year's Resolution was to learn to tie their laces. The children are looking great in their trainers – if your child has shoe laces for PE and any of our free sports club, please could you help them practise tying up their laces at home. It will be greatly appreciated - thank you!

Netball League Match vs. Chieveley School

Netball v Chieveley

Our netball team did not have to travel far to play their last game of the first league in the Newbury Primary Schools Netball League. Yhey played a fantastic game and won 7:0 to remian top of their league. The score does not reflect Chieveley's determination and play - Chieveley played brilliantly. So far this year, they remain unbeaten but still great sportsman.
